Watching: Went to the ‘Take That’ concert at Old Trafford cricket ground last night. We got absolutely drenched, standing for an hour in a torrential downpour (after all…an outdoor concert in Manchester…??) - but it was brilliant and very spectacular. They are a terrific band, and the show was a visual feast too - loads of acrobats, and a magnificent mechanical elephant. The photos give some idea of the scale, but you had to be there…..
Reading: currently, Craig Nelson’s ‘Rocket Men’ a detailed account of the Apollo missions that eventually landed a man on the moon, almost 40 years ago….
Listening: world music band ‘Lamb’, because we recently went to a gig in Chorlton where the bassist did a solo set…also Stevie Winwood’ Island classics re-release (Caroline is a huge fan), and Linda Ronstadt with some fabulous 40s covers (Lush Life, For Sentimental Reasons…). Also - on your recommend, the ‘Uncovered’ album, which has some great covers, most notably (and poignantly, given this week’s news) ‘Billie Jean’ and a fantastic song I’d never heard before - ‘Hideaway’
