RWL: Gig overload…
Tue, Nov 3, 2009
What a week! I love going to live events, and this past week has seek a real overload of riches:
- Sunday: Wembley Bowl with David and two friends. This is the annual American Football game, between two top American sides - this year the New England Patriots (my team) v the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fab!
- Tuesday: ZZ Top at….Wolverhampton Civic Centre (again with David). Still don’t know why Wolverhampton - their only other UK venue was Wembley!! It was a sell out, a great atmosphere and gig, and a terrific spoof rock band as support - Steel Panther
- Friday: Green Day at Manchester’s MEN Arena. Fantastic - possibly the best gig I have been to. Brilliant band, in top form. Two and a half hour set, non-stop, great atmosphere and staging. Photos from the gig available on Green Day’s website….worth a look. If you like high energy rock and roll, this is the gig to catch.
- Sunday: (wait for it…..) Ken Dodd at Southport! He’s an amazing guy. He is over 80, celebrating 55 years in showbiz, and still going strong. He has a reputation for long shows, and this was no exception. He started at 7, and finished at 12.15am!! Amazing stamina, and loads of corny jokes. His act is a real throwback to the old fashioned variety hall entertainment - he had a magician and a ventriloquist as guests. A slice of theatre history….
I need a rest - I’m gigged out!
