Sunrise Walk, 2009…
Sun, Jun 7, 2009
It’s getting close to that time of year again….!
Each summer a group of us walk to one of the high peaks in the Lake District, camp near the summit, and get up to watch the sunrise. We’ve done it for the past 3 years, and never had a clear morning yet! Last year’s was the worst. Unable to make it onto the Buttermere Ridge, due to heavy rain, wind, and mist, we camped in a col of flat ground above the lake. Here we all are, ahead of setting up the night’s camp…
The night was easily the scariest I’ve experienced, with torrential rain and wind, and lighting which we could actually hear sizzling as it struck the field… All the tents were damaged to some extent. This was mine and Nathan’s, the morning after….
So this year, undeterred, we’re doing the same walk again - from Red Pike, at the start of the Buttermere Range, right through to Scafell and Wastwater. It’s likely to be a weekend in August, so if you’re interested, leave your contact details below!
